Knoxville Catholic High School was founded 90 years ago creating a tradition of excellence in academics and athletics. Last year’s graduating class was offered almost 17 million dollars in college scholarships. Over the last decade, Catholic has had 110 National Merit Scholars and over 250 Athletic Scholarships at the collegiate level.  Knoxville Catholic High School creates Scholars, Leaders, and Champions.

Before Freshman Year of 2021/2022

Before Keegan started his freshman year (2021/2022) in high school he had the following accomplishments:

  • Won 21 National Championships
  • AAU National Cross Country Championships, Cross Country Coaches National Youth Championships, AAU Junior Olympics, Adidas Indoor National Championships, AAU Indoor National Championships and TFCUSA Indoor National Championships. Note: Keegan still holds five (5) age-specific national records for the aforementioned venues
  • Won 3 Footlocker South Cross Country Championships
  • Won 4 Tennessee State Championships
  • Iinvited as a 7th grader to run the national elite high school 3200m at the Music City Distance Carnival (Keegan set the all-time Tennessee record for 7th graders {9:49})
  • Invited as a 8th grader to run the national elite high school 3200m at the Music City Track Carnival (Keegan placed third amongst these elite high school runners, including runners from the elite team of Newbury Park, CA). Keegan also set the all-time Tennessee record for 8th graders {9:18})

    • All-time record in the United States for a high school freshman in the 3200m {8:52.96}  Milesplit

    • Set all-time record in the United States for a high school freshman in the 5K {14:53.79} in 2021 (record was recently broken by Marcelo Manteca 09/16/2023)  Milesplit

    Indoor Track National Records

    • All-time record in the United States for a high school freshman in the 1 Mile {4:14.63}. Milesplit
    • Keegan holds the all-time record in the United States for a high school freshman in the 1500m {3:57.89}. Milesplit

    Other National Highlights

    • Finished 7th at the Eastbay Cross Country National Championships – South Region and was the only freshman boy to compete at the National Championships in San Diego (2021). Milesplit
    • Freshman Division National Champion in the 1 Mile and the 800m at the New Balance Indoor National Championships (2021)
    • Invited to compete in the prestigious Brooks PR Invite (2 Mile) – as a freshman he finished in 6th place.  Milesplit

    Athlete Extracurriculars

    • Maintains a 4.43 GPA; is a member of the National Honor Society; is a member of the Knoxville Catholic High School (KCHS) Student Council, is a member of KCHS Interact Club, is a member of KCHS Mathletes Club, is a member of Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (National Spanish Honor Society), is on the KCHS President’s Honor Roll and is a routine altar server at his church.
    • For over seven years, Keegan has been intimately involved (over 72 occasions) with the Knoxville Bridge Ministry which serves meals to about 200 people in downtown Knoxville who are homeless (at the Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) outdoor courtyard on the 4th Sunday morning of every month).
    • Instrumental in raising and securing $5,000 which was earmarked and used for inner-city athletes (track & field and cross country) who could not afford entry fees and travel costs associated with national competitions.
    • Keegan volunteered (painting) for the Columbus Home Children’s Shelter and Assessment Center (a 24 hour/365 days per year program that accepts children from birth to 17 years of age who have been removed from the home due to allegations of abuse, neglect or other endangerment).
    • Keegan volunteered (painting and serving meals) for Samaritan Place which provides shelter and support for elderly who are in crisis.
    • Volunteers at the Ladies of Charity Knoxville providing landscaping services and separating/organizing/hanging donated clothing at their thrift store for the homeless.
    • During the spring, summer and fall – Keegan volunteers his time 2-3 times a month to provide yardwork (mowing/weed eating/etc.) for an elderly woman who lives 45 minutes from his house.
    • As a member of Knoxville Catholic High School’s Interact Club, Keegan carries out hands-on service projects for the Knoxville community (Example – after the Thanksgiving holiday, he is scheduled to be a Salvation Army bell ringer).

    Additional Points of Interest

    • Keegan is an avid snow skier and loves to play basketball.
    • He has a great passion (hobby) and talent for photographing aircraft during their takeoff, landing and taxiing (in fact, commercial companies including FedEx and United Airlines have shared his photographs on their social media sites).
    • Keegan also has a very large collection of die-cast model airplanes from throughout the world.
    • Keegan had a special mentoring friendship with the late Paul McMullen, a member of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics US team (1500m). He also maintains a special mentoring friendship with Jose Antonio “Tony” Parrilla, Jr., a two-time Olympian – 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta (800m).
    • Keegan enjoys a father-son like relationship with Tony Cosey, a member of the 2000 Sydney Olympics US team (3000m steeplechase).
